MOD071 – Human Design

Definition:

Human Design is a self-discovery system that combines ancient wisdom traditions with modern science to create a personalised map of an individual’s energetic makeup, providing insights into their unique traits, decision-making process, and life purpose.

Explanation:

Human Design uses a person’s birth data (date, time, and location) to generate a BodyGraph, a visual representation of their energetic blueprint. This chart reveals key aspects of an individual’s nature and potential, including:

  1. Type: There are five Types (Manifestor, Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, and Reflector), each with its own energy signature and optimal way of interacting with the world.
  2. Strategy: Each Type has a specific Strategy for making decisions and navigating life in alignment with their nature.
  3. Authority: This is one’s inner guidance system for making authentic decisions.
  4. Profile: Representing the “costume” of one’s life purpose, the Profile consists of two numbers that describe one’s personality and life path.
  5. Defined and Undefined Centres: The nine Centres in the BodyGraph represent different aspects of human nature. Defined (coloured) Centres indicate consistent traits, while undefined (white) Centres are areas of potential wisdom and vulnerability.
  6. Channels and Gates: These represent specific energies and themes in one’s life, connecting the Centres and forming one’s unique circuitry.

Human Design encourages individuals to “experiment” with living according to their design, rather than conditioning or societal expectations. By following one’s Strategy and Authority, people can allegedly make decisions that are in alignment with their true nature, leading to less resistance and more fulfilment in life.

While Human Design has gained popularity as a tool for personal growth and self-understanding, it’s important to note that it lacks scientific validation. Many find it valuable as a framework for self-reflection and personal development, but it should be approached with an open and discerning mind.

Evidence to Efficacy:

There is growing interest in exploring how Human Design can offer insights into physical health and wellbeing. While scientific evidence is limited, proponents of Human Design suggest that an individual’s bodygraph may provide clues about potential health tendencies and optimal ways to support wellbeing.

Some key ways Human Design is said to relate to health include:

  1. Energy Types: Each type (Generator, Manifestor, Projector, Reflector) is believed to have different energy patterns that may influence health needs.
  2. Defined/Undefined Centres: The status of centres in one’s chart is thought to indicate areas of consistent energy or potential vulnerability.
  3. Gates and Channels: Specific combinations are associated with different health themes or tendencies.
  4. Profile: One’s profile may suggest general approaches to maintaining wellbeing.
  5. Variables: The cognitive and sensory variables are believed to influence how one processes information related to health.

Practitioners use this information to offer personalized suggestions for diet, exercise, sleep patterns, and stress management tailored to an individual’s design. However, it’s important to note that Human Design is not a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.

Governing Body:

While there is no single governing body for Human Design, several respected organisations offer training and certification:

International Human Design School (IHDS): Founded by Ra Uru Hu, the originator of Human Design, IHDS offers comprehensive analyst training and certification programs. Their courses are considered the most traditional approach to Human Design education.

Human Design America/Human Design College: An IHDS-approved affiliate offering analyst training and certification courses. They are known for their thorough and structured approach to Human Design education.

BG5 Institute: Offers certification in BG5 Career and Business Consulting, a specialised application of Human Design principles to professional settings.

Jovian Archive: The official organisation for preserving and disseminating Ra Uru Hu’s original Human Design teachings. They offer various educational resources and courses.

Quantum Human Design: Founded by Karen Curry Parker, this organisation offers a more interpretive approach to Human Design, with various levels of certification programs.

Human Design UK: Provides training and certification programs in the UK, offering both in-person and online courses.

Evolutionary Human Design: Created by Chetan Parkyn, this program offers a unique perspective on Human Design with its own certification track.

Gene Keys Society: While not strictly Human Design, this related system founded by Richard Rudd offers its own training and certification programs.

These organisations maintain their own standards for certification, often requiring students to complete a series of courses, demonstrate proficiency through exams or client readings, and adhere to ethical guidelines. However, it’s important to note that without a central governing body, standards can vary between organisations.

Practitioners and clients are encouraged to research the background and credentials of Human Design analysts to ensure they align with reputable training programs.

What Good Looks Like:

In the context of Human Design, a positive and impactful experience should encompass several key elements:

  • You should feel a deep sense of recognition and validation as your unique energetic blueprint is revealed. The practitioner should articulate your design in a way that resonates profoundly with your lived experience, offering insights that feel both revelatory and familiar.
  • The session should provide you with practical, actionable guidance on how to align with your natural energy flow. You should gain a clear understanding of your energy type, strategy, and authority, along with concrete examples of how to apply these in your daily life.
  • You should experience ‘aha’ moments as longstanding patterns or challenges in your life are illuminated through the lens of your design. The practitioner should skillfully connect aspects of your chart to your personal experiences, helping you reframe perceived weaknesses as unique strengths.
  • The session should leave you feeling empowered and excited about experimenting with your design. You should gain a new perspective on decision-making that feels intuitively right for you, rather than prescribed or forced.
  • You should feel a sense of relief and permission to be yourself. The practitioner should emphasise that your design is perfect as it is, encouraging you to embrace your uniqueness rather than trying to change or fix yourself.
  • The experience should be interactive, allowing you to ask questions and explore areas of particular interest or concern. The practitioner should be adept at translating complex Human Design concepts into language that is accessible and meaningful to you.
  • By the end of the session, you should feel equipped with a new ‘user manual’ for yourself, with clear next steps for integrating this knowledge into your life. You should leave feeling inspired to embark on the journey of living your design, with a mix of excitement and grounded practicality.

Key items a practitioner MUST include:
