Pain Management

Pain can touch every part of life — from sore muscles and tired joints to cycle discomfort or the strain of daily posture. Over time we’ve explored many ways to ease it, from natural remedies and supplements to supportive tools and simple aids that bring relief and comfort.

This collection brings together the approaches that have helped us most. Whether you’re looking for targeted release, everyday support or gentle remedies, these are the practices and products we’ve found valuable in making pain more manageable.

Supplements & Remedies

Sometimes the simplest support comes from nature. From curcumin and magnesium to soothing balms and ear candles, these are the natural remedies we’ve turned to for easing discomfort and helping the body find balance.

Coconut oil
Ben Recommends: I use coconut oil for all my massage treatments. I don’t have a preferred brand, but it has to be clean – so that means it needs to be Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil – 100% Pure, Raw & Cold Pressed!! It’s also great on your skin, hair and to cook with! talk about versatile.
Elavate Collagen
Charlotte Recommends: I chose Elavate because it combines both marine and bovine collagen, giving broader support across connective tissue, joints, skin, and overall structural health. It also includes liposomal Vitamin C, which plays an important role in collagen absorption and is something many collagen products overlook. I personally use collagen more as supportive maintenance during this stage of life — particularly through perimenopause, ageing, and managing the additional connective tissue challenges that come with EDS. For me, it’s less about chasing aesthetics and more about supporting resilience, recovery, joint comfort, and how my body feels day to day. One of the things I’ve learned is that supplements tend to work best when they’re matched to what your body is actually asking for. This has become one of those products I consistently keep in my own toolbelt because it supports several areas that feel important for me at this stage of life. This link gives you £10 off your first order.
Epoch solution
Charlotte Recommends: while this product is marketed for feet, the formula actually makes it a fantastic product for eczema relief. Apply to itchy areas for immediate relief and long-term reduction in itching, redness and flaky skin.
L-glutamine
Charlotte Recommends: L-Glutamine is something I tend to use more during periods of increased physical stress, heavier training, slower recovery, or when my body feels like it needs additional support rebuilding and repairing. It’s an amino acid involved in muscle recovery and repair, which is why many people use it when dealing with soreness, fatigue, or higher physical demand. I’ve personally found it particularly helpful during more intense periods of activity where recovery and resilience become more important. One of the things I try to stay mindful of with supplements is using them in response to what my body actually needs, rather than automatically taking everything all the time. For me, L-Glutamine is one of those more targeted support tools that I’ll increase or reduce depending on how active I am and how my body is responding.
Epsom Salts
Charlotte Recommends: Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulfate) are great in baths as the magnesium absorbs through the skin to help get deep into the muscles relaxing them. I have 1 every other day to help with the aches and pains of daily life. You need to make sure you have a reasonable amount of it to get the benefit (this is the most common reason why it people feel no effect – you can sprinkle it you need a good couple of coffee mug sized scoops!) I get 10kg a month to ensure every bath is adequately dosed. (Note I do this on amazon subscription so I save)
Zooki Liposomal Magnesium
Charlotte Recommends: Magnesium plays an important role in pain management and inflammation reduction. It acts as am antagonist to NMDA receptors which attenuates pain hypersensitivity. It also helps to prevent the development of chronic pain conditions and decreases the levels of pro-inflammatory substances in the body. I have recently started using this liposomal Magnesium Bis-Glycinate Liquid. I’m finding that these because it liposomal (which means they’ve shielded the Magnesium from stomach acid which increases the absorption of across the gut wall into the bloodstream) I get more effect, faster! And it tastes nice too. Don’t forget to use my code to get 20% off your first 2 orders: REF-CHAR7572
Magnesium Malate
Charlotte Recommends: Magnesium plays an important role in pain management and inflammation reduction. It acts as am antagonist to NMDA receptors which attenuates pain hypersensitivity. It also helps to prevent the development of chronic pain conditions and decreases the levels of pro-inflammatory substances in the body. I take 2 morning and night.
Magnesium Oil
Charlotte Recommends: Magnesium plays an important role in pain management and inflammation reduction, and magnesium oil offers a unique way to deliver these benefits directly through the skin. When applied topically the digestive system is bypassed allowing for more efficient absorption. The topical application can be particularly beneficial for localised pain and muscle tension, as it helps reduce inflammation and promote muscle relaxation right where it’s needed. Some users report relief from restless leg syndrome and nocturnal leg cramps when applying magnesium oil to their feet before bed. I also use mine for endometriosis and menstrual abdominal pain
Tiger balm Muscle lotion
Charlotte Recommends: I love this product for spot tension of localised pain points. It’s Tiger Balm’s active ingredients of Camphor, Menthol, Capsicum that I believe makes this a fantastic product. The provide pain relief, increase blood flow and reduce inflammation. with over 100years of use their efficacy is well established

Curcumin supplement
Charlotte Recommends: Curcumin is something I personally use to support inflammation, recovery, and physical resilience – particularly with conditions like EDS, where inflammation and physical stress can build over time. I tend to use capsules when I want something simple, consistent, and easy to build into a daily routine. This version is particularly strong, so I usually take one in the morning and one at night during periods where pain, inflammation, or recovery needs feel higher. What I’ve learned over time is that curcumin can be incredibly supportive, but the format matters too. For some people capsules work perfectly, while others respond better to liquids or sprays depending on digestion, absorption, and lifestyle.
Turmeric Spray
Charlotte Recommends: Curcumin is one of the main tools in my personal inflammation-support toolbelt, especially during periods where my body feels more inflamed, physically stressed, or slower to recover. I particularly like the spray versions because they’re easy to use, absorb quickly, and work well for people who struggle with capsules or digestion. Sometimes the best supplement isn’t just about the ingredient itself, but about finding the format your body responds to best and that you’ll actually use consistently. For me, this is a really practical option when I want flexible, targeted support without adding more tablets into the mix.
Zooki Liposomal Tumeric
Charlotte Recommends: Curcumin has become one of the most consistent tools in my own approach to supporting inflammation, recovery, and overall physical resilience. I like the liquid sachet versions because they feel gentler, convenient when travelling or on busy days, and easy to incorporate without needing multiple capsules. They’re also a great option for people who prefer liquid delivery methods or notice they absorb supplements differently in this format. One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that there’s rarely one “perfect” version of a supplement — often it’s about discovering which delivery method best suits your body, lifestyle, and how you naturally respond. Wintergreen Oil
Charlotte Recommends: Wintergreen oil is something I personally use as part of supporting my body during periods where I feel run down or notice familiar viral-type patterns beginning to surface. Its main active compound, methyl salicylate, has properties similar to aspirin, which is why it’s often used to support inflammation, muscular discomfort, and physical tension. I originally started using this after having Glandular Fever, which is linked to Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV). Like many viruses, EBV can remain dormant in the body and may flare during periods of stress, fatigue, or lowered resilience. Over time, I began noticing patterns in how my body responded during those periods and started using Wintergreen oil as part of my wider support approach. For me, that looks like applying a small amount around the base of the skull and upper neck area during times where I feel my system needs extra support. It’s become one of those products I consistently keep in my toolbelt because I’ve found it personally helpful over many years of use.

Relief Tools & Therapies

When pain needs more hands-on help, these are the tools we reach for. Mats, rollers, massage aids and thermal therapies all offer ways to release tension, stimulate circulation and bring targeted relief where it’s needed most.

acupressure mat
Charlotte Recommends: I lie on my mat for 15mins morning and night as part of my holistic pain management routine. It promotes circulation, relaxation and provides me with time to plan my day or reflect on it as part of my gratitude and meditation practices.
Far Infrared Sauna Bag and Liner
Charlotte Recommends: The use of far infrared rays means that the heat transfer warms the body from within, rather than the surrounding air. The heat causes higher rates of sweat than a traditional sauna. The sweat is great for detox but also dilates the blood vessels for improve circulation and with that pain relief. When my pain levels are really bad this is my go to. I used to use this 3 times a a week. For comfort, and easy cleaning I used a liner too. This product adds both to your shopping cart.

Sleeping Bag Liner - for use with FIR Sauna
Charlotte Recommends: if you’re using a Far Infrared Sauna blanket you will sweat. And it’s far easier to have a couple of these that you can put in the wash than waiting for the sauna to cool down and cleaning it thoroughly each time. Trust me, a couple of these will make the expereince a lot better.
Foam Roller
Nicky Recommends: Foam rollers are essential self-massage tools that significantly improve muscle recovery and flexibility. By applying pressure to various muscle groups, they help release tension, break up adhesions in connective tissue, and increase blood flow.
Grounding mat
Nicky Recommends: Grounding mats are designed to recreate some of the effects people experience when spending time barefoot on natural surfaces like grass, soil, or sand. Many people find grounding practices supportive for relaxation, recovery, sleep, stress reduction, and feeling more physically settled and connected. What I personally like about grounding mats is that they make the practice much more accessible within everyday life. Ideally I’d spend more time walking barefoot outdoors, but realistically the weather, lifestyle, and workload don’t always make that practical. This gives me a simple way to incorporate grounding into my routine more consistently at home. I tend to use mine after treatments, as well as morning and night, because I personally find it helps me slow down, reset, and feel more balanced after busy or energetically demanding days. Like many tools in wellness, the important thing is noticing how your own body responds and whether it feels supportive for you personally.
Hopi ear candles
Charlotte Recommends: if you suffer from inflammation this can cause pain in the airways, including the ear. Using a Hop Ear Candle quarterly can really help to clear them out of everything use reducing the irritation caused by the inflammation. They are really easy to use and provide some forced down time for an extra meditation.
Jade Gua Sha
Nicky Recommends: Gua sha tools are implements used in traditional Chinese medicine for facial and full-body massage to promote circulation, reduce tension, and enhance overall health. These tools work by applying gentle pressure and scraping motions along the skin, which may stimulate lymphatic drainage, increase blood flow, release fascial adhesions, and alleviate various musculoskeletal issues. Gua sha tools come in various materials and shapes, including jade (known for its cooling properties), rose quartz (for its soothing effects), and stainless steel (for its durability and hygienic qualities.) My personal one is Jade but for treatments i use Stainless Steel. (Learn more about Gua Sha)

pulsio massage gun
Ben Recommends: I have been testing hand held massage guns for a while now. I think would particularly suit female clients as it is lighter and smaller, so easier to hold. Massage guns are useful for those times between actual massage treatments to work on specific areas of tension.
Red light therapy device
Charlotte Recommends: Red and near-infrared light therapy is something I tend to use more during periods where my body feels depleted, inflamed, slower to recover, or particularly affected by the darker winter months. Many people explore red light support for recovery, energy, skin health, inflammation, and overall wellbeing support. What I personally love about this device is that it feels like a very gentle, consistent form of support rather than something extreme or invasive. Especially during winter, when natural light exposure drops and energy levels can feel lower, I find it helps create a sense of warmth, restoration, and daily nourishment for both body and mind. Like many tools within wellbeing, I think the key is consistency and noticing how your own system responds over time. For me, it’s become one of those simple practices that helps me feel more supported during periods where my body needs a little extra care and recovery.
loop band
Nicky Recommends: Resistance loop bands offer versatile and effective strength training options by providing resistance for a wide range of exercises, helping to improve muscle strength, flexibility, and mobility while being compact and portable, making them ideal for home workouts, rehabilitation, or as a complement to traditional gym routines. I recommend these to my clients to do bum exercises, which almost every human on the planet needs to do – strengthening our glutes. You need to ensure sufficient resistance so Heavy for women. Extra heavy for men.
Spiky ball
Nicky Recommends: Spiky massage balls like this one are beneficial for almost all people due to their ability to provide targeted self-massage and myofascial release. These tools can help alleviate muscle tension, improve circulation, and reduce physical pain by applying pressure to specific trigger points, making them especially useful for managing various types of muscular discomfort and promoting overall body relaxation. I like to make sure that the ball i use is hard, and has a 9cm diameter – I find those the most useful. And just roll it everywhere. I especially like it under your feet. It’s just magical.
Tiger balm Muscle lotion
Charlotte Recommends: I love this product for spot tension of localised pain points. It’s Tiger Balm’s active ingredients of Camphor, Menthol, Capsicum that I believe makes this a fantastic product. Support & Posture

Prevention is just as important as relief. Pillows, ergonomic aids and supportive footwear help the body stay aligned and reduce strain day to day, creating comfort that lasts well beyond the moment.

Grounding mat
Nicky Recommends: Grounding mats are designed to recreate some of the effects people experience when spending time barefoot on natural surfaces like grass, soil, or sand. Grounding pillowcase
Charlotte Recommends: A grounding pillowcase works on the same principle but focuses on your head and face area. Made with conductive materials, it allows for direct contact between your skin and the grounding elements while you sleep. This can be particularly beneficial for those experiencing headaches, facial tension, or skin issues. I’ve know people report improved complexion and reduced facial puffiness. It’s an easy way to maintain grounding contact even if you move around during sleep.
Grounding bed sheet
Charlotte Recommends: Designed to connect your body to the Earth’s natural electrical charge while you sleep. A grounding sheet is placed under your regular sheet and contains conductive materials like silver or carbon fibres woven throughout, allowing the transfer of electrons from the Earth to your body. This connection helps reduce inflammation, improve sleep quality, and balance cortisol levels. I have one on my bed and i wake up feeling more refreshed and experiencing less pain or stiffness.
Knee Pillow
Charlotte Phelps: Using a knee pillow can significantly reduce pain by promoting proper spinal alignment during sleep. When placed between the knees, it helps maintain the natural alignment of the hips, pelvis, and lower back, which can alleviate pressure on the spine and reduce strain on the lower back muscles. This improved alignment can lead to decreased pain and stiffness, particularly for those with lower back issues, sciatica, or hip pain, by distributing weight more evenly and reducing stress on joints and muscles throughout the night. I like to like on my right side, so put my left leg on this pillow and it really helps reduce my lower back stiffness and pain.
Logitech Ergonomic Mouse
Ben Recommends: I have many clients come to me with wrist elbow. And shoulder problems due to using a normal mouse or trackpad. These can cause Repetitive strain issues. This mouse, by allowing you to use your hand in a more relaxed position, can greatly help these issues.
Body Pillow
Nicky Recommends: Whole body pillows offer benefits beyond pregnancy support, making them valuable for various sleepers. These pillows promote proper spinal alignment by supporting multiple body parts simultaneously, which can reduce pressure on joints and muscles, potentially alleviating back, hip, and knee pain. Additionally, they can improve sleep quality by encouraging a more stable sleeping position, reducing tossing and turning, and providing comfort for side sleepers or those recovering from injuries. Ever since i was pregnant I’ve kept sleeping with mine because it’s just so damned comfortable and gives me really good spinal support.
Vibram 5 finger Barefoot shoes
Ben Recommends: Following a year of personal foot and leg problems, I found out about these shoes and how they help restore strength and functionality to feet. What a godsend!
