“I’m about to embark on a new adventure. It’s called Heart-Brain Coherence, and it’s a very simple procedure.” These words from our beloved Alchemist Sally mark the beginning of an inspiring 14-day adventure into the practice of heart-brain coherence, as outlined in Gregg Braden’s ground-breaking book, ‘Pure Human’.
Gregg Braden and ‘Pure Human’
Gregg, a dear friend to The Alchemy of Being, is a true pioneer in bridging science and spirituality. Both Sally and Charlotte have had the pleasure of attending his conferences in the UK and Sedona, always coming away inspired and enlightened. In his latest book ‘Pure Human’, Gregg introduces us to the transformative power of heart-brain coherence.
Gregg’s work is truly fascinating. He has this incredible knack for making complex scientific concepts accessible and exciting. In ‘Pure Human‘, he explores how we can tap into our body’s untapped potential, presenting heart-brain coherence as a key to unlocking our full capabilities. It’s not just theory – Gregg backs it up with cutting-edge research in neuroscience, epigenetics, and quantum physics. But what’s really brilliant is how he presents it all in a way that’s easy to understand and apply in our daily lives.
What is Heart-Brain Coherence?
Heart-brain coherence is a state of synchronisation between the heart and mind, creating a harmonious state within our body and mind. This practice is based on the fascinating neuroscience of heart-brain communication.
The heart and brain are connected by the vagus nerve, which facilitates bidirectional communication between these organs. The heart actually sends more signals to the brain than vice versa, and these signals can influence emotional processing, decision-making, and cognitive function.
When we practice heart-brain coherence:
- The heart’s rhythm becomes more ordered and coherent.
- This coherent pattern is detected by the brain via the vagus nerve.
- The brain responds by synchronising its neural activity with the heart’s rhythm.
- This synchronisation leads to improved cognitive function, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.
The practice involves a simple yet potent breathing technique:
- Breathe in for a count of four
- Exhale for a count of six
- Focus on your heart whilst breathing
- Fill yourself with feelings of gratitude
The Challenge: 14 Days of Heart-Brain Coherence
Sally, an experienced meditator with a well-established daily routine, decided to embark on this 14-day challenge to explore new dimensions of her practice. At 80 years young, Sally embodies the spirit of lifelong learning and constant evolution that we cherish at The Alchemy of Being. Her openness to exploring new ways to uplift her wellness is truly inspiring.
Sally diligently recorded her experiences each day, providing us with a candid glimpse into the transformative power of this practice. Let’s follow her journey:
Sally’s Journey: Highlights and Insights
Day 2-3: Joyous Beginnings
Sally’s journey began with an intensity of joyous emotion during meditation. Despite grey, drizzly weather, her spirits remained high. By day three, she experienced an expansion of her heart and a deeper understanding of authenticity.
Day 2: Hello, Sally here again, carrying on with the heart-brain coherence meditations that I’m undertaking. So yesterday was day one, and these are the notes I made. There was an intensity of joyous emotion during my meditation. The day was drizzly and grey, but my spirits could not be dampened. I felt light, bright and excited the whole of the day. We’ll see what today brings, and I’ll let you know tomorrow. Bye!
Day 3: Almost brought to tears by the exquisite beauty of my feelings. Peace. Expansion of my heart. An unfolding of understanding how being authentic to myself has brought me to this place. At last I understand. Let it Be. Let your heart speak to you in the quiet of just staying still. Give it your attention and it will show you what Love is.
Day 4-6: Peace and Expansion
As the challenge progressed, Sally reported feeling honoured and humbled, experiencing wonderful deep peace. Her meditations led to a sense of expansion and a reluctance to leave the blissful state.
Day 4: Honoured and humbled to be on this planet at this moment in time. Have waited 80 earth years for this Wonderful deep peace. Despite an exhausting and noisy day with the family, still energised, relaxed and happy.
Day 5: I asked my heart “what should I be doing?” And my heart replied “Going with the flow”.
Day 6: Hi everyone, here I am back with the heart-brain coherence adventure. Day six and the feeling I had as I did my meditation was expansion. I mentally walked in and out of a labyrinth and as I came out it was into a sea of ever-expanding motion. I stayed in the state of motion for quite some time and I was very reluctant to leave but when I finally did I left with the greatest sense of peace I have ever ever felt. Join me again. Bye now.
Extra Comments on Day 6: Hi there, it’s Sally talking about the journey that I’m on – doing the heart-brain coherence every day for 14 days. Now while I was doing it, I was also very aware that at this moment in time, we are undergoing quite a lot of energy entering into the planet from the cosmos. As we’re coming up on the 28th February – to a huge planetary alignment when seven planets all line up in the sky at the same time. And, it’s going to be quite an impact on us. I think the impact has already started. A lot of people have been feeling confused and perhaps sometimes a little bit under the weather, aches and pains that they couldn’t explain. Whereas I, on the other hand, have been quite an oddball – in that I have felt so energised, so full of joy, so emotional. I’m wondering if part of this has to do with the energies that are coming in, but also with the fact that the heart-brain exercises that I’m doing, the coherence exercises where I’m breathing in for the count of four, breathing out for the count of six, focusing on my heart and filling myself with gratitude. I’m wondering if it’s a conjunction of the cosmic energies plus the fact that I am doing this exercise now all the time, not just in my meditation but as I walk around the supermarket, as I’m sitting on the bus, when I’m just walking around the cemetery – which is my go-to place to be with nature – and just walking down the road. So we’ll see how it all unfurls. Stay with me and I’ll be on the air soon. Bye.
Day 7-10: Practical Applications
Sally discovered the practical benefits of heart-brain coherence, using it to restore equilibrium when faced with challenging news. She noted an increased ability to tackle problems with a clearer head and more joy in her heart.
Day 7: A moment of panic on receiving some news. Immediately did heart/brain coherence. Peace restored and gratitude that all was as it should be. Dangerous thinking eliminated from system. Equilibrium restored. Move on knowing all is well.
Day 8: Hello, Sally here with day eight of heart-brain coherence. Well, what can I say? Tomorrow is the 28th of February when we get the seven planetary alignment and the excitement is almost palpable. The air feels electrified waiting for this gigantic planetary alignment which is going to be stupendous. So my meditation has been quite intense. The more I do the heart-brain coherence, the more I’m able to actually deal with anything that comes up. When a problem turns up in my life, I leave it for a little while, I go away, I let it rest, I do a little bit of heart coherence, heart-brain coherence and then I come back to the problem and it doesn’t seem to be such a problem anymore. I’m able to tackle it with a clearer head and a little bit more joy in my heart. Try and join me again soon and I’ll tell you how I get on with day nine after the great planetary alignment. Bye now.
Day 9: Well. That was a surprise. I was all over the place. Restless. Could not settle. Finally got into meditative state and felt so much better after. Later in the day I needed to walk barefoot in the park and spend time by the water.
Day 10: Hello, for those of you who don’t know me, I’m Sally and I have been doing heart-brain coherence. Today is day 10 and what I want to report is that yesterday was rather disturbing because of the energies coming through, 28th of February. Today I’m a lot calmer and what I’m feeling is a great degree of tolerance and understanding. Yesterday I went for a walk and I was walking by the river here in Chelsea and I came across some architecture which I thought was to my mind a little bland and uninteresting but then today during my meditation it came to me that that was somebody’s dream vision. That was the culmination of somebody’s hopes and desires and I thought well that’s rather lovely. Yes and that has taught me to be not judgemental, to be tolerant and understanding of other people’s needs and other people’s visions. I think that’s a very valuable lesson I’ve learnt. See you soon. Bye bye.
Day 11-14: Deepening Tranquillity
The final days of the challenge brought Sally a profound sense of tranquillity, gratitude, and self-acceptance. She concluded the challenge feeling a serene state of peace she had never before experienced.
Day 11: Tranquillity. A quiet day spent in gentle reflection and immense gratitude for the gift of life.
Day 12: Depth. Tranquillity. Flow. Idea for Positivity Board conceived during meditation

Day 13: Again I asked my heart “What should I be doing” and my heart replied. “Exactly what you are doing. Just being You.”
Day 14: Hello, so here we are at day 14 of heart-brain coherence. What can I say?
After 14 days of doing the heart-brain coherence meditation, I’d like to report that from a very simple exercise of breathing in for four, breathing out for six, focusing on the heart and filling it with gratitude has left me with the most serene state of peace and tranquillity that I have ever experienced.
I would highly recommend this practice daily for no matter how long you can do it, three minutes, five minutes or longer, whatever it is, I hope it brings you the peace and tranquillity it has brought me. With many blessings and much love. Namaste from Sally.
The Benefits of Heart-Brain Coherence: Research and Sally’s Experience
Gregg Braden, in ‘Pure Human’, highlights the transformative power of heart-brain coherence. He writes, “When we create heart-brain coherence, we’re aligning our physical, mental, and emotional systems. This alignment allows us to access higher states of consciousness and tap into our innate wisdom and potential.”
This aligns with insights from other experts in the field:
Dr Joe Dispenza notes, “When we form heart-centred beliefs within our bodies, in the language of physics we’re creating the electrical and magnetic expression of them as waves of energy, which aren’t confined to our hearts or limited by the physical barrier of our skin and bones.”
Tony Robbins emphasises the connection between our physical state and emotions: “Emotion is created by motion. Whatever you’re feeling right now is related to how you’re using your body.”
Sally’s experience beautifully illustrates these concepts. She reported:
- Improved emotional regulation: “Peace restored and gratitude that all was as it should be. Dangerous thinking eliminated from system. Equilibrium restored.” (Day 7)
- Enhanced cognitive function: “When a problem turns up in my life, I leave it for a little while, I go away, I let it rest, I do a little bit of heart coherence, heart-brain coherence and then I come back to the problem, and it doesn’t seem to be such a problem anymore.” (Day 8)
- Increased resilience to stress: “Despite an exhausting and noisy day with the family, still energised, relaxed and happy.” (Day 4)
- Greater sense of inner peace and harmony: “The most serene state of peace and tranquillity that I have ever experienced.” (Day 14)
While everyone’s experience with heart-brain coherence may differ, Sally’s journey illustrates the potential benefits of this practice, reinforcing the insights shared by experts in the field.
Incorporating Heart-Brain Coherence into Daily Life
Sally’s experience demonstrates that heart-brain coherence can be practiced anywhere, anytime. Whether you’re walking in the supermarket, sitting on a bus, or simply going about your day, you can engage in this powerful practice.
To incorporate heart-brain coherence into your daily routine:
- Set aside dedicated time each day for practice
- Use it as a tool when facing stress or challenges
- Focus on deep breathing and gratitude throughout the day
- Remind yourself of the benefits to stay motivated
Conclusion
Sally’s 14-day heart-brain coherence challenge serves as an inspiring testament to the transformative power of this practice. Her journey illustrates how a simple daily exercise can lead to profound shifts in emotional well-being, stress resilience, and overall life satisfaction.
As we at The Alchemy of Being always emphasise, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to personal growth. Heart-brain coherence is another valuable tool to add to your ‘Toolbelt for Life’, helping you curate the best version of yourself and navigate life’s journey with greater ease and joy.

Pure Human: The Hidden Truth of Our Divinity, Power, and Destiny
Sally Recommends: This new book from Gregg is just divine. In it he shares in a really accessible way so much of what our true potential may be. Having attending his conference in Sedona in 2023, on the same topic, having this book is a little like reference material. I loved the heart brain coherence so much – I chronicled my first 14-day of it – you can see that here: Sally’s 14-Day Adventure with Heart-Brain Coherence.
Remember, you already have all that you need within you – it’s simply a matter of learning how to access and cultivate it.
