Welcome to the November edition of The Other Way.
Hey there,
As we reach the end of November, the world outside slows, darkens, and exhales - and somewhere within that stillness, something begins to stir. The light is returning.
December always feels like a paradox to me: deep rest wrapped around subtle anticipation. It’s not quite ending, not quite beginning - just this luminous in-between where reflection turns into renewal. So as we close the year, The Other Way is leaning into that rhythm with this month’s theme: Return to Light.
Not the blinding kind that demands attention, but the softer light that reveals, clarifies, and warms - the kind that shows us what’s been growing quietly while we rested.
Let’s explore what it really means to return to that kind of light - in our thinking, our laughter, our pace, and our way of being.
And as always, we’ll start by looking to the skies for guidance - the Celestial Compass that marks this turning point between darkness and dawn. |

Return to Light – December’s Cosmic Threshold
December opens beneath extraordinary skies. The Cold Moon on 4 December marks the third consecutive supermoon, swelling the tides and emotions alike. Three supermoons in a row magnify everything - illumination, culmination, release - urging us to clear space before the year’s close.
Mid-month, interstellar comet 3I ATLAS makes its closest pass to Earth on 19 December, just before the Winter Solstice. It’s a rare visitor from beyond our solar system, reminding us that new light often arrives from unexpected directions.
The Solstice on 21 December then draws us into the longest night - a sacred pause before the returning sun. This convergence of supermoon, comet, and solstice turns December into a cosmic threshold: a moment for reflection, surrender, and the quiet anticipation of what’s to come.

The Restorative Power of Laughter |
|
As the year winds down, the socialising around Christmas and New Year picks up - my first Christmas do is on the 6th of December! It’s a season full of connection, but it can also leave us craving rest.
What’s wonderful, though, is that where there’s laughter, there’s instant restoration. Every genuine laugh is a mini exhale - a reset for the nervous system, a way of releasing what we’ve been holding on to. So this Christmas social season, see each opportunity to express joy and laughter as an act of self-care.
That’s right, this month, we’re exploring the restorative power of laughter: how a single burst of joy can melt tension, lift fatigue, and make space for the light to return.

The Patience of the Bear |
|
This month’s cartoon made us smile, and pause.
The bear is deep in hibernation, the rabbit impatiently waiting for the return of movement, light, and company. It’s funny because we know both characters live inside us. One is tired, resting, recalibrating. The other is tapping its foot, asking, “Are we done yet?”
It’s a perfect echo of this month’s Transformative Tale - nature’s quiet confidence in knowing when to pause, and of The Pace Principle we explored in Brainz Magazine. Because rest isn’t wasted time; it’s recovery in motion. The nervous system doesn’t respond to urgency; it responds to safety.
Just like the earth, we can’t rush the return of light - it happens when it’s ready, not when we demand it.
So if part of you is hibernating right now, don’t hurry it up.
Your quiet seasons aren’t boring - they’re becoming.

The Light Within the Pause
As December kicks-off, I keep coming back to one thought: light never truly disappears - it just changes form. Sometimes it glows quietly in rest and reflection, and sometimes it bursts out in laughter, warmth, and connection.
This month holds both - the quiet withdrawal of winter and the bright whirl of festivities. It’s easy to think they’re opposites, but really they feed each other. The stillness restores us; the laughter reminds us why we bother. Together, they bring harmony to the season.
So as you move through December, give yourself permission to dip in and out of both - the quiet and the company, the rest and the revelry. Each one holds its own kind of light.
Thank you, as always, for reading, reflecting, and walking The Other Way with me.
Here’s to finding your rhythm in the season’s contrast, and to keeping your light steady, whatever form it takes.
Blessed Be, |
