'TOOLBELT FOR LIFE' EDITION
|
| | |
|
Welcome to the April Edition of Toolbelt For Life.
In The Other Way in March, we explored momentum. Not the kind you force or manufacture, but the kind that begins quietly. The kind that builds beneath the surface, like sap starting to rise.
The conditions are shifting. Something is already in motion.
But this is often the point where we step in. Where we question it, overthink it, or try to shape it into something clearer, faster, or more certain. And without realising it, we interrupt the very momentum we’ve been waiting for.
So this month, the invitation is simple.
Not to do more.
Not to push harder.
But to notice where things are already moving…
and stop getting in your own way. |

I’ve learned to listen to my body over the years. It’s been one of the most important parts of my journey. But that doesn’t mean I always trust it straight away.
I know that one of my key barometers for how things are for me, health-wise, is the quality of my sleep. If something’s off, my sleep will tell me.
And recently, there was a moment where it did.
Nothing dramatic. But I started waking up in the middle of the night. Not fully awake, just enough to notice. And in the morning, I wasn’t waking up feeling as restored or energised as I normally do.
It was subtle. But it was a signal.
And I felt it. Immediately.
But instead of staying with that, I did what I think many of us do. I overrode it.
I told myself it was probably nothing. That it would pass. I kept everything the same. Pushed on with what I’d already planned. Because on paper, everything still made sense.
But my sleep didn’t shift.
And that’s when I recognised it. Not just the signal itself, but what I had done with it. I had interrupted something that was already working. My body had given me clear feedback, and I had stepped in and dismissed it.
So I stopped.
Not in a big, dramatic way. Just enough to listen properly this time. I cancelled a night out I’d been planning and gave myself an early night instead. I tightened up my evening routine, switched off earlier, and created a bit more space before bed so my mind could actually settle.
Nothing extreme. Just small adjustments that respected what my body was already telling me.
And almost immediately, things began to settle. I started sleeping through again. Waking up feeling more like myself.
Nothing new was created in that moment. I didn’t need a better plan or more information.
I just needed to stop getting in my own way.
It was a simple reminder, but an important one. Momentum doesn’t always come from doing more. Sometimes it comes from trusting what you already know… and choosing not to override it. |

In Practice Prompt, we offer a bite-sized ritual or reflective question to bring the theme of the month into your daily rhythm. These simple yet powerful nudges are designed to help you pause, recalibrate, and listen to the quiet wisdom within. Because real change starts with one intentional breath. |
| | |
|
One of the easiest ways to interrupt your own momentum is to move too quickly. To act, fix, or change something before you’ve fully understood what’s actually happening.
This prompt is designed to create a pause. A moment to step back before you react, so you can notice whether your next move is coming from clarity… or discomfort.
Come back to it when you feel the urge to overthink, change direction, or do more than is needed. Let it slow you down just enough to listen before you act.
Where might I be getting in my own way right now… and what happens if I leave this alone? |

In Modality Moments, we introduce you to a unique modality each week, sharing its significance, why it’s worth exploring in our Wellness Wiki, and a personal insight to inspire your journey. |

|
Momentum doesn’t always need more effort. Sometimes, it needs less interference. |
|
One of the subtle ways we interrupt what’s already working is by stepping in too quickly, trying to fix, improve, or control something that was naturally unfolding. We feel a shift, and instead of allowing it to build, we override it with thinking, doubt, or urgency. The very moment something begins to move… we disrupt it.
Reiki offers a different way. It’s a practice rooted in stillness, presence, and allowing energy to move without force. Nothing to push. Nothing to figure out. Just space for the body to settle and rebalance itself. In that space, what was already in motion can continue, uninterrupted.
If this month is about recognising where momentum has already begun, Reiki helps you experience what it feels like to stop getting in the way.

The Art of Not Forcing |
|
One of the most subtle ways we interrupt our own momentum is by trying to take control too quickly.
Something begins to shift. There’s movement, even if it’s small. But instead of allowing it to build, we step in. We analyse it. We question it. We try to shape it into something clearer, faster, or more certain. And in doing so, we disrupt the very thing that was starting to unfold.
In this 40-min talk, Alan Watts explores the idea of non-forcing. The understanding that not everything needs to be pushed into existence. That there is a natural rhythm to how things unfold, and when we interfere too much, we lose connection to it.
It’s a powerful reminder that momentum doesn’t always need more action. Sometimes, it needs less interference.

Magnesium Glycinate |
|
Not all interruption is mental.
Sometimes what looks like overthinking, inconsistency, or self-sabotage is actually a nervous system that’s under strain. When your body is tense, tired, or overstimulated, everything feels harder. You second-guess more quickly. You lose trust in what was working. You react instead of continue.
Magnesium glycinate is one of the most supportive forms when it comes to calming the system. It helps regulate the nervous system, reduce mental chatter, and support deeper, more restorative sleep. And when your system feels steadier, you’re far less likely to interfere with what’s already in motion.
Because momentum doesn’t just depend on what you do.
It depends on the state you’re in when you do it.

The Chinese Finger Trap |
|
Have you ever played with a Chinese finger trap?
You place your fingers inside, and the instinct is immediate. Pull away. Get out. But the harder you pull, the tighter it becomes. What feels like the obvious solution… is exactly what keeps you stuck.
The only way to release yourself is to do the opposite.
Stop pulling. Soften. Move gently inward first.
And then, without force, you’re free.
It’s a simple reminder, but a powerful one.
Sometimes it’s not that we’re stuck.
It’s that we’re trying too hard to get unstuck.
And the moment we stop forcing it… things begin to move again. |
|
|
| | |
|
Momentum doesn’t always ask for more from you.
Sometimes, it asks for less.
Less interference.
Less overthinking.
Less need to control what’s already unfolding.
This month, notice where things are already moving in your life. Where something feels a little easier, a little clearer, a little more in flow. And before you step in to change it… pause.
You might not need to do anything at all.
If something in this month’s Toolbelt resonated with you, we’d love to hear. And if you know someone who might need this reminder, feel free to share the link to subscribe with them.
Until next time,
