Welcome to the March edition of The Other Way.
Hey there,
Last month, we explored the theme of Emergence with Intent. March asked us to slow down long enough to notice what was quietly forming beneath the surface. It was a time for discernment, for allowing insights to settle, and for recognising which directions genuinely felt ready to unfold.
April carries a different quality. As spring deepens, the natural world begins to move with greater confidence. Beneath the bark of trees, sap rises steadily upward, feeding the buds and branches that will soon burst into leaf. The shift is subtle at first, but unmistakable once it begins.
This month’s theme is Momentum - When the Sap Begins to Rise. The invitation is not to force growth or manufacture change, but to recognise where movement has already begun and allow it to continue. The conditions are shifting. The question is simply whether we’re willing to move with them.
In the sections that follow, we explore how this quiet momentum shows up across the skies above us, the stories we tell ourselves, the wisdom of the nervous system, and the rhythms of the natural world.
Let’s begin. |

April’s Gathering Momentum
April arrives with a noticeable shift in tone. After the reflective undercurrents of recent weeks, the energy begins to turn outward. The month opens with a Full Moon in Libra, illuminating the relational dynamics that shape how we move through the world. Libra invites us to look at balance, reciprocity, and the subtle ways our choices affect both ourselves and others. What becomes clear here is less about resolution and more about awareness, the recognition of where harmony is present and where adjustment may be needed.
As the days progress, the atmosphere gradually becomes more active. Mars moves into Aries early in the month, introducing a more direct and decisive energy. Aries is associated with beginnings, courage, and the willingness to take the first step even when the path is not fully mapped. This influence is amplified by the New Moon in Aries around the middle of April, a moment that supports fresh momentum and renewed initiative. Rather than dramatic reinvention, this New Moon encourages simple forward movement, the willingness to begin.
Seasonally, we are now firmly in mid-spring. The buds that appeared tentatively a few weeks ago begin to strengthen, and beneath the bark of trees the sap rises steadily upward, carrying stored energy to the branches. Growth accelerates not through force, but through readiness. In much the same way, April carries the energy of momentum. Clarity has already begun to form; the invitation now is to move with it.
Taken together, April speaks to the quiet power of aligned action. Not urgency, not pressure, but the natural continuation of something already underway. When the conditions are right, movement follows.

✨ Curated Treasures: Momentum
This month’s theme, Momentum - When the Sap Begins to Rise, invites us to notice what happens once clarity has already arrived. April is not about forcing movement or chasing dramatic change. It’s about recognising when the conditions are right and allowing forward motion to begin naturally.
Like sap rising through a tree in spring, momentum often starts quietly beneath the surface before it becomes visible in our actions. These three treasures explore that shift from different angles: courageous movement, incremental progress, and the natural rhythms that remind us growth doesn’t need to be forced to be powerful.
🎥 Watch - How to Turn Moments into Momentum (Renée Montgomery)
In this energetic and inspiring talk, Renée Montgomery reflects on the moments when life asks us to step forward before we feel entirely ready. Drawing on her experiences as an athlete, activist, and entrepreneur, she explores how small decisions taken at the right moment can transform hesitation into momentum.
Rather than waiting for perfect conditions, Montgomery shows how movement itself creates possibility. A compelling reminder that forward motion often begins with a single courageous step.

🎧 Listen - The Knowledge Project Podcast: James Clear
In this thoughtful conversation, James Clear explores the power of small gains and the way consistent, incremental action creates meaningful change over time. Rather than relying on bursts of motivation, he explains how progress compounds when we focus on steady movement in the right direction.
It’s a refreshing reminder that momentum rarely comes from dramatic leaps. More often, it grows quietly through repeated actions that align with what we already know to be true.

📝 Read - Why Does Sap Rise in Spring? (Woodland Trust)
This short and fascinating article explains the science behind one of nature’s most powerful seasonal signals. As temperatures warm and daylight lengthens, pressure builds within trees, drawing stored nutrients upward to support the buds and new growth that will soon appear.
The tree doesn’t question whether it should grow. Once the conditions are right, the system responds.
A beautiful reminder that momentum is often less about effort and more about allowing the natural energy of growth to continue its path.

Even in the natural world, momentum isn’t mysterious. Trees don’t wait for motivation, clarity, or a perfectly mapped five-year plan. When the light changes, the temperature shifts, and the conditions are right, the sap begins to rise and growth simply follows.
Perhaps nature’s greatest secret is that movement doesn’t require endless deliberation. Sometimes it’s simply the result of the right conditions meeting the right moment.
And while we may be a little more complicated than trees, there’s something quietly reassuring in remembering that growth doesn’t always need to be forced. Often, it begins when the environment changes just enough for the system to move. |

As April unfolds, momentum rarely arrives with a dramatic announcement. More often, it begins quietly, like the sap rising through a tree as the days grow warmer and the light lingers a little longer.
The invitation this month is simply to notice where movement is already beginning. Not to force it, rush it, or question it endlessly, but to recognise when the conditions have shifted enough for growth to continue.
If something in this edition resonated with you, made you smile, or helped you see something in a new way, feel free to pass it on to someone who might appreciate it too. These reflections travel best when they’re shared.
And as always, if a particular section sparked a thought or reflection, we’d love to hear from you. The conversation around these ideas is part of what keeps them alive.
Until next month, may the rising energy of spring carry you forward in ways that feel natural, steady, and true. |
